Acoustic sniper detection uses the audio characteristics of an incoming bullet to calculate a bearing and range of the shooter. Current systems use a monolithic array of microphones to gather enough input from known distances to triangulate the shot. The idea for this version would be to do this with a distributed troop mounted sensor network. First things are first though. We'll need to get a non-distributed version working which will be a big challenge.

There are currently many different tri, quad, hex and octo rotor configured aircraft. The idea behind the nRotor concept is to move the logic, power and motor controller from a centralised board to a modular nacelle that contains everything needed for stable flight given a viable physical configuration. This could ultimately allow a wide variety of configurations that could be tweaked for a given mission. The project will take several stages each one getting closer to the nRotor concept.

Overview

In order to facilitate communication between projects and contributers Openwarfare will attempt to build and enforce a set of standards within the community. These standards should and will cover any piece of data that is intended for to be shared between projects or contributers.

The Short Hop Messenger is an attempt to build a wireless mesh network communication device.

The idea behind this device is to create a system that is resistant to eavesdropping and provides anonymous access and distribution of short text messages. This project is in the very early stages of development. The initial plan is to make a virtual drop box that anyone can post a message to. These messages are then posted to the internet. Check out my nifty diagram below.

Overview

The ability to quickly fabricate equipment and parts is an essential capability for the modern war fighter. Two essential qualities in any conflict is adaptation and resilience. Those who can adapt quickly can eventually begin to gain initiative and ultimately drive the pace and direction of the conflict. Cheap rapid fabrication and prototyping will be one of the keys to battlefield success in the not so distant future.
